Halloween Is Here

It's that time of year again, when all the ghosts and goblins come out to play. It can be very scary, if you know what I mean (wink). If you are going out with your kids to go trick-or-treating, please be careful and use your brain. If you are going out to a party or a club, same advice. If you are like us, you'll be kicking back at home, watching a scary movie, waiting for someone to knock at your door and ask for candy.

If you don't know what you will be doing for Halloween, here are some links to check out for things to do in Los Angeles. Beware: enter at your own risk.

Apple Users: Are Mac Service Stores Letting You Down?

If there's one thing that is hard for me to tolerate, it's a bunch of "could-care-less" teenagers behind the desk of a Mac service store. You know the one, with hair in his face, and a nonchalant demeanor? I prefer someone professional, who makes me think he cares that my computer is broken and that he will do whatever he can to fix it and get it back to me in a reasonable time frame.

If you're like me and you have a Mac, then you have probably tried several Mac stores to service your computer when it breaks down. Living in L.A., there are LOTS of them. However, service is key. I have tried many stores, but only one store in years of research had the guy that cared about his job. His name was Matthew and he worked at Mac Hollywood on Sunset. Matthew was the best. But since his departure, in my opinion, the service at Mac Hollywood has suffered severely without him. So, now what?

Well, I just read in a local paper, the Los Feliz Ledger, that the new Mac store in town to beat is Apple, Inc. reseller Los Feliz Hi Tech, at 1805 Hillhurst Avenue.

Contributing Ledger Writer, Kimberly Gomez reported, "Owner, Diego Thomas, who, among other things, created the Mac service center for Samy's Camera on Fairfax [before it burned down] said Los Feliz Hi Tech was a logical step in his long career of 17 years."

The story also reads, "Hi Tech picks up where the Apple store left off and that they plan to have Apple consultants and certified technicians do the work in-house in order to keep costs down for the customer. The store also sells computers, accessories and gadgets galore."

I don't know about you guys, but I am definitely going to take my Mac to Los Feliz Hi Tech the next time it needs service and I promise to blog about it. If you happen to try it before I blog about it, please feel free to let me know about your personal experience. If there is one thing us Mac users need, it's a good service store we can depend on!

Welcome to L.A. Link!

After months of procras- tinating, I finally decided to publish a blog about my city, my neighborhood and my craft -- digital design and illustration. And, what better neighborhood to be living in than Beachwood Canyon? Just north of downtown, under the Hollywood sign. Yes, I love it here and I have been fortunate to work with some of the best agencies and studios in the business. Which is why I want to share my knowledge of art in entertainment. To view my online portfolio and to learn more about me professionally, please visit www.joseph-rey.com.

On this blog, you will learn about what is going on in L.A., in general, but more importantly in the design business, as well. I will be offering design "tips & tricks" of the trade, postings of my recent works and L.A. happenings around town. This includes featured artists, events, art walks, best restaurants and cafe's, worst restaurants and cafe's, movie and DVD reviews and much more! If you are an artist and/or interested in Los Angeles, this is the blog for you.

If you are an artist and would like your work to be featured, please email me directly and I would welcome an opportunity to post it, along with something about you, on this blog. As I always say, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease." In other words, no one knows you want something unless you ask for it. Consider it, J.Rey's Career Tip #1.
